Choosing a Psychic Print E-mail

A few weeks ago I was forwarded this posting from Craigs' List. I get questions all the time about how to choose a good psychic or metaphysical practicioner, and while the specifics of my answere may vary, this is the core of what I tell people.

"I have been in LA for a few years and have not had much success, so I want to try some alternative methods. One of my friends suggested I try white magic, but I figured I should find an expert or someone who knows what they are doing.

My audition is on Wednesday, if you could write me with whatever idea or spell you have to help me, that would be great. Like I said I have never done this before. I can pay 100 bucks, maybe 130, but that is all I have right now.
Thanks"

My name is John Thornton and I have been a practicing psychic and teacher for over 15 years, I am also the founder of AmericanMetaphysics.org. Having run a psychic directory and been in the business for a while I wanted to reply to your inquiry with some advice for how to choose a psychic or spiritual advisor.

First, this is, in many ways, no different from trying to find any qualified professional - start by asking your friends and getting referrals. You want someone qualified and trustworthy, the best way to find that is to ask around. You wouldn't go looking for a great dentist on Craigs' list, would you?

Second, if you can't get any good referrals from your friends and family, start looking in professional organizations, local venues and shops. Even witches shamans and psychics have professional organizations these days that can be found online. You could try American Metaphysics, the Omega Institute, the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), Lily Dale Assembly, the Mind Body Spirit Directory, or Findhorn. However, your best bet would be to check out your local metaphysical bookstore or health foods store. Either one should be able to recommend a few local practitioners. Many "New Age" shops host local psychics a few days a week or can direct you to a psychic fair in your area where you can meet a number of local psychics and get short readings at reduced prices.

Lastly, posting your budget is never a good idea, every scammer and con-artist comes out of the woodwork. While it does weed out the $500 an hour folks, it also turns off the lesser known professionals who charge much more reasonable prices and do the work because they love it.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your audition.
